Madeline Base-Bursey – Head Tennis Professional
Madeline has been playing tennis ever since she can remember. Growing up in Toronto, her parents enrolled her in tennis lessons at a very young age. Starting to play at Greenwin Tennis Club, now Toronto Tennis City, Madeline’s passion for the sport developed quickly. As her skills developed, Madeline began playing provincial tournaments through the Ontario Tennis Association at the age of nine and soon thereafter starting training with the Toronto Tennis Academy at the Waterside Tennis Club with some unbelievable players and tennis professionals. Throughout her competitive career, Madeline was provincially ranked within the top ten in the U12, U14, and U16 categories.
Madeline’s passion for the sport has infiltrated all aspects of her life. From playing competitively at both the provincial and national levels, to volunteering for five consecutive years at the Roger’s Cup in Toronto, to coaching at one of the most beautiful resorts in Muskoka, to playing competitively at the university level; much of Madeline’s life has revolved around tennis.
Currently, Madeline has completed her second year at McGill University in Montreal, Quebec and will be continuing her degree in History, International Relations, and Communications at the University of Melbourne in Australia come next year. Madeline has played on the McGill Tennis Team since her arrival in Montreal and this past year has managed to qualify for the Canadian National University Tournament, which will be held at the Roger’s Cup in Toronto at the beginning of August. Madeline and the McGill Tennis Team will be competing against the University of Western Ontario, the University of Alberta, and the University of British Columbia for the national title.
This summer will be Madeline’s fourth year coaching at Clevelands House Resort. Growing up with a cottage on Tobin Island on Lake Rosseau, Madeline and her family spent every summer in Muskoka, visiting the Clevelands House tennis courts daily; thus the resort is a sort of second-home to Madeline as it is for many of the guests. Every summer becomes a combination of memories, new experiences, old and new friends, embracing the beauty of Muskoka, and, of course, days filled with tennis. Madeline is looking forward to yet another beautiful summer in Muskoka.
